BANDIPORA: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr. Owais Ahmad visited Gujjar and Bakerwal Hostel in Watapora Bandipora on Thursday to provide an update on its operation.
While interacting with the students, Dr. Owais inquired about the facilities available for students in the hostel. He urged them to work harder to uplift the tribal community, thus becoming role models for their community.
He directed those concerned to maintain proper cleanliness and sanitation in the hostel.
The DC said that the hostel alleviates the problems of students from the Gujjar and Bakerwal community and provides accommodation for those students and aspirants who have to travel long distances to reach the district headquarters for education purposes, training and for other purposes.
Dr. Owais said the hostel will be equipped with all modern facilities, including a reading room, 24-hour internet connection, computer lab and library, and serve as an education center for the people.
On occasion, the DC ordered the R&B executive engineer to macadamize the road leading to the hostel as a matter of priority.
Later, the DC also inspected the ongoing works in the adjacent park being constructed by the tourism department under the languid scheme at the cost of Rs. 223 lacs and emphasized a quality ambience and a quick completion so hostel residents as well as students and locals can spend their free time in the park.
The DC was accompanied by the Joint Director Planning, Ex. R&B Engineer, Tehsildar Bandipora and other senior district officers.
